West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday, while claiming that “at least 15 pilgrims” succumbed in the early morning stampede-like situation at the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, offered her condolences to the bereaved families.

Banerjee while taking to her X handle stated that her experiences of organising the annual Gangasagar Mela in Bengal warrant “maximal planning and care” to handle huge assemblies such as the Kumbh.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh, which has claimed at least 15 innocent lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved pilgrim families. My learning from our Gangasagar Mela is that planning and care must be maximal in matters relating to pilgrims’ lives in vast assemblies of people. Prayers for the departed souls,” she wrote.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday expressed grief over the loss of lives during stampede at the Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh and urged all Kannadigas at the Mela to stay cautious and safe amid reports about injury to some devotees from the state.

Multiple people were killed and many injured in a stampede at the Sangam area of the Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj in UP early Wednesday as crores of pilgrims jostled for space to take a holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya.

Taking to social media post ‘X’, he said, “Saddened by the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj this morning, which claimed several lives. My condolences to the bereaved families, and prayers for the departed souls. Wishing a speedy recovery to the injured.” He assured that the state government will ensure safe return of devotees from Karnataka.

“Reports indicate some from our state are among the injured. Officials are working to ensure their safe return, and the government is making every effort for their well-being. I urge all Kannadigas at the Kumbh Mela to stay cautious and safe,” he added. (PTI)

Bodies, clothes and bags lay scattered on the ground after a deadly stampede at the world’s largest gathering of humanity, the Maha Kumbh Mela in northern India, on one of the most auspicious days in Hinduism.

Witnesses described a mass of people rushing to take a pre-dawn dip at the confluence of the three sacred rivers - the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the mythical, invisible Saraswati, at Prayagraj, which Hindus believe absolves them of all sins and frees them from the circle of life and death.

An unnamed official said at least seven people had died and dozens more had been injured in the stampede that took place in the early hours of Wednesday. But there was no confirmation of deaths or injuries from the local government, more than 12 hours after the incident. - Reuters

As the Amrit Snan began after a brief halt due to a stampede-like situation, the Akhadas took a holy dip at Triveni Sangam with their deities for the Amrit Snan on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, which is also the day of the Second Shahi Snan.

President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, Mahant Ravindra Puri, on his way to Snagam, said that Akhara members will vacate the ghats very quickly so that all the devotees who have come here are able to take a holy dip.

“We are going for Amrit Snan and thousands of saints and Nagas are coming with me... We will vacate the ghats very quickly so that all the devotees who have come here are able to take a holy dip,” Ravindra Puri told ANI. - ANI

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu condoled the deaths of several devotees in the stampede at Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister wished for the quick recovery of the injured devotees and conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased persons.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic stampede at the Prayagraj Mahakumbh. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of those who lost their lives. I pray to God for strength and solace for their loved ones during this difficult time and for a swift and complete recovery for all those injured,” said Naidu in a post on X. - PTI

Vehicles carrying thousands of devotees to Maha Kumbh were stuck on the border between Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday due to huge crowd in Prayagraj, officials said.

Food and accommodation arrangements were made for the devotees stranded in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said in a post on X.

Rewa city is located 130 km from Prayagraj in UP.

Yadav said said crores of devotees from all over the country and abroad were reaching Prayagraj to take a holy bath there on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday. - PTI

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed his condolences at the tragic incident at Kumbh and said he was monitoring the situation after the stampede and bathing at the Maha Kumbh has since started there.

Before addressing his poll rally in Delhi’s Kartar Nagar, Modi said he expresses his condolences over the tragic incident and prayed for the early recovery of those injured.

“We had to lose some good souls in the tragic incident at Kumbh and some people have also got hurt. I convey my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and pray for the early recovery of those injured.” said Modi. - PTI

Members of Akhara’s gathered in small numbers at Triveni Sangam on Wednesday to take an ‘Amrit Snan’ on the occasion of ‘Mauni Amavasya.

Digambar Naga Baba Chidanand Puri of Panchayati Niranjani Akhara speaking to ANI after taking ‘Amrit snan’ said that after today’s stampede-like situation in Maha Kumbh people from Niranjani Akhara are coming in small numbers to take a holy dip.

“Due to an unexpected event today, our (Akharas) shobha yatra could not be taken out. We are now coming to take a holy dip in small numbers,” Digambar Naga Baba said. - PTI

Opposition leaders in Uttar Pradesh, including SP president Akhilesh Yadav, on Wednesday targeted the Yogi Adityanath government over the stampede at the Maha Kumbh, saying it highlighted the failure of the state government.

Yadav demanded that those who claimed “world-class arrangements” in the Maha Kumbh should resign from their posts taking moral responsibility for the stampede.

“In order to re-establish faith in the system among the saint community and devotees who have come to the Maha Kumbh, it is necessary that the administration and management of the Maha Kumbh should be immediately handed over to the army instead of the UP government,” he said on X. - PTI

Uttarakhand government on Wednesday released toll-free numbers to assist its citizens attending the Mahakumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.

In a post on X, the office of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “In continuation of the instructions of the Honourable Chief Minister Shri @pushkardhami ji, toll-free numbers have been issued by the state government for the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh Bath to assist the people of Uttarakhand.”

“People who have gone to Maha Kumbh from the state can get any kind of help by calling toll-free numbers--1070, 8218867005, and 90584 41404,” the post further reads. - ANI

Expressing sadness over the stampede at Maha Kumbh, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday said his government is ready to extend the necessary help.

Reddy said the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government should provide appropriate treatment for the injured and also help the families of those who lost their lives in the tragedy, according to an official release. - PTI

Lakhs of devotees took a holy dip in the Narmada, Shipra and other prominent rivers in Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya on Wednesday.

The number of devotees is comparatively less this year, as several people have gone to Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh for holy bath in the river Ganga during the ongoing Maha Kumbh, Narmadapuram tehsildar Devshankar Dhurve said. - PTI

Following the stampede-like situation at the Maha Kumbh earlier on Wednesday, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev urged people to go to the nearest ghat and take Amrit Snan, saying the flow of water from the Sangam would definitely reach every ghat in Prayagraj.

Speaking to ANI, Ramdev said, “When in crowds like this, it is our duty to ensure our and everyone else’s safety. If everyone is careful, everything will go on smoothly. All devotees who are here need to be patient. The first characteristic of dharma is patience. Even though everyone wants to visit Sangam, it is not practically possible so wherever you are, you can go to your nearest ghat since the flow of water from Sangam will definitely reach every ghat in Prayagraj.” - ANI

DIG Mahakumbh, Vaibhav Krishna has ordered horse-mounted police personnel to move devotees to vacate the Triveni Sangam ghat.

Earlier, to ensure the security of all the devotees, amid massive crowds building in the Mahakumbh area on Mauni Amavasya, a team of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad along with a sniffer dog conducted regular checking of the area.

Speaking to ANI Krishna addressed the ongoing crowd control measures at Triveni Sangam during Mahakumbh 2025, anticipating more than 10 crore people to arrive for the holy dip today.

“We expect more than 10 crore people today. All our officials and personnel have been deployed for crowd regulation since yesterday evening. People are bathing at all the ghats here peacefully,” Vaibhav Krishna said. He acknowledged the pressure from the large crowd in the morning but noted that many Akharas had agreed to delay their snan, allowing authorities to manage the crowd more effectively. - ANI

Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday expressed concern over the stampede-like situation at Maha Kumbh and blamed the Uttar Pradesh government mismanagement and focus on VIP movement over devotee safety for the tragic incident.

“The news of several people being killed and many being injured due to stampede at Prayagraj Mahakumbh is extremely sad. I express my deepest condolences to the bereaved families and hope for the speedy recovery of the injured. Mismanagement and administration’s special focus on VIP movement instead of common devotees are responsible for this tragic incident,” Rahul Gandhi said on X.

Several devotees are feared dead and many injured following a stampede in the early hours of Wednesday at Akhara Marg, close to the Triveni Sangam ghat at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

While the Maha Kumbh Mela top brass has so far not shared an official account of the tragedy nor put a number to those feared dead, news agency AFP reported that a doctor at the festival site had said that at least 15 persons perished in the stampede.

A doctor at the Swaroop Rani Nehru Government Hospital , situated at MG Road in Prayagraj, told businessline that some of the dead were taken directly to the mortuary in the city. Read more

The Railways will run 360 trains across different stations in Prayagraj district on Wednesday on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, one of the main snan days at the ongoing Mahakumbh Mela.

A stampede injured dozens of people early Wednesday as tens of thousands of Hindus rushed to take a holy bath in the river at the massive Maha Kumbh festival in northern India, local media reported.

Distressed families lined up outside a makeshift hospital inquiring about their missing relatives, rescuers were helping the injured and police tried to manage the crowds.

People’s belongings like clothes, blankets and backpacks were strewn around the scene of the stampede. It was not immediately clear what triggered the panic or how many people had been hurt.

Wednesday was a sacred day during the six-week festival, and authorities were expecting a record 100 million devotees to engage in a ritual bath at the confluence of the Ganges, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The ritualistic bathing’s main draw are thousands of ash-smeared Hindu ascetics who arrive in massive processions towards the confluence to take a holy dip in the waters.: PTI

Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Ravindra Puri on Wednesday said that due to the stampede-like situation at Maha Kumbh, the seers have called off their Mauni Amavasya’s Amrit Snan.

A stampede-like situation broke out at Sangam earlier on Wednesday at the Sangam, where several people, including women and children, suffered injuries.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday released an advisory regarding fire safety to all the camps at the Maha Kumbh Mela, being held at Prayagraj.

The advisory asked people to immediately inform the Mela control and local police and fire stations on 112, 1920, 1090, or the numbers specified by ICCC in case of a fire or emergency incident.

In case of a fire, it is asked to create noise to alert and notify the nearby tents to be cautious.

“During an emergency, remain calm and work with a cool mind, using the nearest fire-fighting equipment from a safe distance, without putting yourself in danger, to attempt extinguishing the fire,” the advisory further reads.

Devotees need to be aware of the nearest exit routes and use them in case of a fire.“Properly identify your fire-fighting equipment so it can be used correctly to extinguish the fire.

Keep an adequate supply of water and sand near the tent to use in case of fire to extinguish it,” it further reads.

Emphasising on quick evacuation of children, officials ask to cut down the ropes or strings of the tent to prevent the spread of the fire.

“Make every effort to extinguish the fire using available water, sand, or any fire-fighting equipment as soon as possible,” it added. - ANI

Krishna Kumar Khemka, trustee of Geeta Press Gorakhpur, spoke about the devastating fire that broke out at its camp in the Maha Kumbh Mela, destroying 180 cottages.

Khemka explained, “About 180 cottages were built. And we had built them very carefully. Everyone had been forbidden to do any kind of fireworks. A circulating area was announced on the west side, where we have laid the boundary, where people would bathe in the Ganges.”He further added, “I don’t know to whom the administration gave it. To whomsoever they gave it to, from that side, some of fire came towards us. And then slowly, like a spark, all our cottages were burned. Nothing was left. Goods worth crores have been damaged. By the grace of God, no life was harmed.” - ANI

In the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela being held in Prayagraj, 12 Jyotirlingas made from 7.5 crore Rudraksha beads has became a major attraction among pilgrims.

Shree Yogi Mauni Swami from Amethi said that the Jyotirlingas were made from 7.5 crore beads and had been established with specific objectives.

“These 12 Jyotirlingas have been made from 7.5 crore beads. These Jyotirlingas have been established with specific objectives.. People from around the world have come here to see this...” the Yogi said. - ANI

The Uttar Pradesh government has made special arrangements for entertaining and enriching the experience of devotees attending Mahakumbh 2025.

According to an official release, cultural programs are being organised across various pandals in the fair area, including the prominent Ganga Pandal located in Sector 1.

As part of these events, renowned poet Kumar Vishwas will narrate his celebrated Ram Katha, “Apne-Apne Ram,” beginning Monday. The sessions will take place at the Ganga Pandal daily from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

This storytelling event is being organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture, the Government of India, and the Culture Department of Uttar Pradesh. - ANI

With the Maha Kumbh underway in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, the initiation process for over hundred women to become ‘Naga Sanyasini’ of Juna Akhada began on Sunday.

The registration process for the initiation is currently underway, and in the first phase, 102 women were given the ‘Naga Diksha’, said Divya Giri, a saint at the Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhada.

They were granted the title of ‘Avdhutani’, after 12 years of serving under their guru, she said.

The food authority said that Food Safety Officers as well as Mobile Food Testing Labs (Food Safety on Wheels) have been deployed at the festival which is being held at Prayagraj.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday after the fire incident in a tent at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj.PM Modi inquired about the situation following the incident.The Chief Minister told the Prime Minister that the skilled brigades of NDRF and SDRF had controlled the fire in time.The fire that broke out in a tent of Gita Press, has now been brought under control and no casualties have been reported, as per officials.According to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Bhanu Bhaskar, the fire was allegedly caused due to cylinder blast.Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Harish Chandra Srivastava, lashed out at the opposition for blaming the government without knowing the facts.“The fire broke out due to a cylinder blast in the Gita Press camp. The opposition is so hostile that they comment before knowing the facts. The accusation by the opposition parties about these things is very superficial and is a proof of their hostile politics,” Srivastava told ANI.Further, the BJP minister applauded CM Yogi Adityanath for taking immediate action of the fire.“The Chief Minister reviewed the arrangements of Maha Kumbh and has gone place to place to review. As soon as he receive information about the fire he reached the location. The government will take action on this.. there have been no damages as of now,” he added.The fire was extinguished within a period of 20 minutes and no casualties were reported, as per Uttar Pradesh Minister AK Sharma.Speaking to ANI, Sharma said “The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. Items such as carpets, glass toys from Firozabad, and wooden toys from Varanasi are being showcased under the Centre’s ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) initiative at the Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj, an official statement said on Sunday.

It also said that ecommerce firm Flipkart has set up a stall at the Mahakumbh, providing entrepreneurs with an opportunity to sell their products on their platform for free.

Sharad Tandon, Joint Commissioner of Industries for the Prayagraj Division, stated that in 2019, the Kumbh Mela generated a business worth Rs 4.30 crore, and this time the business is expected to reach up to Rs 35 crore.

The initiative is aimed promoting the handicrafts and cottage industries of the country.

“Items such as carpets, zari-zardosi, glass toys from Firozabad, wooden toys from Varanasi, and other handicraft products are becoming major attractions for devotees,” it said.

Products having Geographical Indications (GI) have also been displayed at the Mahakumbh. (PTI)

A delegation from Italy met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after taking a holy dip at the Sangam in the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh on Sunday and expressed admiration for Indian culture and traditions, the Uttar Pradesh government said in a statement.

Led by Mahi Guru, the founder and trainer at a meditation and yoga centre in Italy, the group included several women.

The group members shared their spiritual experiences at the Maha Kumbh, which they described as a live demonstration of India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.

During the meeting at Adityanath’s official residence, the delegation members recited ‘chaupai (verse)‘ from the Ramayana, Shiva Tandav, and sang ‘bhajans’.

They shared with the chief minister how participating in the Naga sadhus’ rituals, ‘bhajan-kirtan’ and other religious practices impacted their understanding of Indian traditions.

The women members said their experiences at the Maha Kumbh had left them deeply impressed by the depth of Indian culture and spirituality.

They also appreciated the warmth and the hospitality they experienced during the visit and noted how the event had reinforced the importance of spirituality and unity in diversity.

Adityanath expressed his gratitude to the delegation for its visit.

A fire that broke out at one of the camps at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela being held in Prayagraj has been brought under control by the fire department’s fire fighting teams present at the spot, as per officials.Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the fire incident that took place. He visited the site of the fire and spoke to officials and fire fighting teams on the spotDeputy Inspector General (DIG) Mahakumbh Mela Vaibhav Krishan while speaking to ANI said that the fire broke at the tents of Gita Press and no casualties were reported.“The fire broke out in the tents of Gita Press. There are no reports of any casualties. A survey is being conducted to ascertain the extent of damage caused by the fire. The fire has been brought under control. It is a matter of nose piercing. Only tents and some things have been burnt,” he saidDistrict Magistrate of Prayagraj (DIG) Ravindra Kumar said that the fire had broke out at 4:30 pm on Sunday.“The fire had broken out at 4:30 pm in Sector 19 of the Gita Press tents. The fire spread to the nearby 10 tents. The police and administration reached the spot. The fire has been extinguished. There is no information of any casualties and the situation is under control...” the DIG said speaking to ANI.UP: ADG Bhanu Bhaskar said that the fire department had managed to bring the situation under control.“We recieved info that a fire broke out due to a cylinder blast in sector 19...Fire tenders, Fire administration, Police and the SDRF team are present at the spot. The people have been evacuated...The fire has been brought under control... No casualty has been reported...The situation is normal here,” he said. (ANI)

A massive fire broke out in the Maha Kumbh Mela area on Sunday due to a cylinder blast, police said, but there was no immediate news of any casualty.

“Two cylinders exploded in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela, causing a massive fire in the camps. Fire fighters are trying to douse the blaze,” Akhara Police Station In-charge Bhaskar Mishra said.

The Maha Kumbh 2025 official X handle posted, “Very sad! The fire incident at #MahaKumbh has shocked everyone. The administration is ensuring immediate relief and rescue operations. We pray Maa Ganga for everyone’s safety.” It also shared a clip that showed a thick black column of smoke billowing out from the affected area. (PTI)

More than 400 people each in four Integrated Control Command Centres (ICCC) keep a continuous watch on big screens displaying live footage and data from hotspots to alert the personnel on crowd density and pilgrim flow.

The source of the visuals -- more than 3,000 cameras, underwater drones and a battery of over 60,000 personnel on the ground.

The mega-religious event, organised every 12 years, is being held in Prayagraj from January 13 and will continue for 45 days. More than seven crore pilgrims have so far taken a holy dip at the Sangam -- the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Sunday took a dip in the holy Triveni Sangam here during the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela.

He also offered prayers at the Hanuman temple here.

The Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) has set up the Khadi India Pavilion at Mahakumbh 2025 and encouraged visitors to join the exhibition which honours India’s timeless legacy and its commitment to promoting sustainable, locally-made products, according to the Ministry of Culture press release.

Khadi India Pavilion at Mahakumbh 2025 showcases India’s rich heritage in local crafts, textiles, and indigenous industries, with a focus on Khadi.

The exhibition will be held in Prayagraj till February 26 and will showcase a total of 152 stalls, with 98 displaying Khadi products and 54 products from village industries. The exhibition features products from more than 20 states, added the release.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), in partnership with the Adani Group, is providing meals to nearly one lakh people daily at the ongoing Maha Kumbh, a spiritual organisation’s official said.

At a camp on Harshvardhan Marg here, ISKCON’s one kitchen prepares food for 30,000 - 35,000 people in one session, and more than one lakh people are served food in three sessions a day, its Director (CSR) Madhukant Das told PTI.

ISKCON’s food -- which includes dal, chole or rajma, vegetables and roti and rice, and halwa or boondi laddu in sweets-- is completely balanced. These meals are prepared on a clay stove over a fire of wood and cow dung cakes, which makes them taste amazing, he added. - PTI

Over 1.7 million pilgrims visited the Mahakumbh Mela on Sunday as of 8 AM, according to official data released by the Uttar Pradesh government.

On the seventh day of the Maha Kumbh, among a congregation of over 1.7 million devotees gathered at the Sangam Triveni, 10 lakh Kalpvasis and 7.02 lakh pilgrims took a holy dip by 8 AM.

As of January 18, more than 77.2 million pilgrims have taken a dip at the Sangam Triveni during the Maha Kumbh 2025. - ANI

The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday started a special bus service from Jammu to Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj to enable devotees from the region to participate in the Maha Kumbh, an official said.

Transport Minister Satish Sharma flagged off the special end-to-end bus service, an official spokesperson said.

The bus will start its journey from the Jammu bus stand at 5 am every day and take the pilgrims to Prayagraj for a holy dip at the Sangam. It will then return with the devotees after a night halt, the minister said. - PTI

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a cabinet meeting on January 22 in Prayagraj, the city which is hosting the Maha Kumbh.

According to senior government officials, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his cabinet ministers will attend the meeting, which is expected to focus on development initiatives across the state.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Saturday and said it is “a spiritual and cultural mega festival of Indianness,” a statement from the Uttar Pradesh government read.

Singh, accompanied by BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, was welcomed at Bamrauli Airport by Uttar Pradesh Minister Nand Gopal Gupta.

The Defence Minister first took a dip at the holy Sangam -- the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers -- amid the chanting of mantras. They also sipped the waters of the Ganga and offered prayers to Lord Surya, the statement added.

“I consider it my good fortune to have taken a bath in the Prayagraj Sangam today. This is a spiritual and cultural mega festival of Indianness. It should not be seen in association with any sect, community, or religion. If anyone wants to understand India and Indianness, they should come and see the Maha Kumbh,” Singh remarked. - PTI

The ‘Tejas Pandal’ at the ongoing Mahakumbh 2025, which is inspired by the HAL Tejas aircraft of the Indian Air Force, has emerged as a special attraction capturing the attention of devotees in Prayagraj.Mahant Brijbhushan Das Ji Maharaj, who played a key role in its construction, shared that the pandal’s purpose is to showcase India’s progress and strength. Devotees from across the world are visiting the pandal, capturing memories and celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the nation.

Speaking to ANI, Mahant Brijbhushan Das Ji Maharaj said, “Tejas aircraft is a symbol of India’s pride and strength, built right here in our country. It’s a testament to our growing self-reliance. A grand procession was carried out as part of the Maha Kumbh celebrations in Prayagraj today, marking the entry of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Dwarka Sharda Pithadhish Swami, Shri Sadananda Saraswati Ji Maharaj into the Shankaracharya camp.The event witnessed the participation of saints and sadhus from all 13 Akharas and the Panch Agni Akhara.Speaking to ANI, Swamishree Sadanand Saraswati Maharaj said, “Jagatguru Shankaracharya Dwarka Sharda Pithadhish Swami Shri Sadananda Saraswati Ji Maharaj is set to enter the Shankaracharya camp today. The grand Maha Kumbh organised by the Uttar Pradesh government is now capturing global attention. As part of this, a 21-member delegation comprising representatives from 10 different countries visited the Sangam in Prayagraj on Thursday.

Speaking to ANI, Denesh Persaud from Guyana, expressed his joy and fulfilment after taking a holy dip in the River Ganges“It’s a dream come true,” Persaud said. “I always wanted to come here and take a holy dip in the River Ganges. Sally El Azab from United Arab Emirates, is among the many international pilgrims who have travelled to Prayagraj, to experience the Kumbh Mela, the largest religious gathering in the world.“I am coming from the Middle East to India...It is a wonderful event,” El Azab said, praising the organisation of the event. “It is the largest religious gathering in the world...Here, everything is well organised to another level. The police are there for safety. The government has arranged it all very well,” he added.The delegation, invited by the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, arrived on Wednesday. Arrangements for the delegation’s stay have been made at the Tent City in Arail, developed by the Uttar Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation.The international delegation includes representatives from Fiji, Finland, Guyana, Malaysia, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Cloth bags, steel plates and steel glasses are being distributed at the Maha Kumbh to ensure that the world’s largest religious congregation is plastic-free, an RSS functionary said.

The “One Plate, One Bag” campaign was launched in Sector 18 on the Old GT Road by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sah-Sarkaryavah Krishna Gopal to replace plastic bags and disposable items, Prant Prachar Pramukh of the organisation, Murar Tripathi, said on Wednesday.

Addressing the pilgrims, Gopal said collective efforts were needed to create a plastic-free society and asserted that everyone should adopt the habit of using cloth bags.

“Cloth bags and carry bags are being distributed to visitors, with around 70,000 such bags already handed out from six centres. Additionally, he shared that 2 million steel plates and steel glasses have been collected from across the country,” Tripathi said.

Singer Shankar Mahadevan feels fortunate to receive an opportunity to perform live at Mahakumbh.A few hours before his performance, Mahadevan expressed his excitement during a brief interaction with ANI.

He said, “I am fortunate that I have got the opportunity to participate in Maha Kumbh. I have a program today..It’s an honour that I am getting a chance to sing in the Maha Kumbh that has come after 144 years.”

In view of the massive influx of pilgrims attending Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, the administration has established an AI-based computerized lost and found centre.Sharing details about the centre, Additional Mela Adhikari Vivek Chaturvedi told ANI, “An AI-based lost and found centre has been set up. Arrangements are made there for accommodation, clothes and food for the people who are lost... There has not been a single case in which we have not been able to reunite children or lost people with their relatives. We have received a good response from the computerised lost and found centre... If there is a case in which we have not been able to reunite a person with his relatives, then the administration takes them to their home at its own expense.”On Wednesday, a 21-member delegation from 10 countries arrived at Arail Tent City in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj. If there is a case in which we have not been able to reunite a person with his relatives, then the administration takes them to their home at its own expense.”

A controversy has erupted over anchor and influencer Harsha Richhariya sitting on a chariot along with seers during Chhavani Pravesh procession by members of the Niranjani Akhara, a ritual marking their formal entry in the Maha Kumbh.
