Queen’s University Belfast which is opening an international campus in GIFT City, Gujarat will begin the academic session in January 2026 and will offer five postgraduate programmes that will be tailored to the specific needs of the Indian economy.
The University from Northern Ireland is a 200-year-old educational institution and also figures in the list of top 200 universities of the world. Through the five postgraduate programmes that will be initially offered to students at GIFT City, the University will focus on equipping students with high-demand skills in the areas of finance, technology and business analytics, stated the University in an official statement on its website.
In December 2024, businessline had reported about International Financial Services Centre Authority (IFSCA) providing the necessary clearances to set up an international campus in GIFT City. Queen’s University will be the third foreign educational institution to open an international campus in GIFT City after two Australian Universities --- Deakin and Wollongong University.
Dipesh Shah, Executive Director, IFSCA in GIFT City stated, “We welcome Queen’s University Belfast to GIFT IFSC. The international branch campus regulations of IFSCA enables seamless onboarding of top foreign universities in GIFT City. This would be the first UK University entering GIFT IFSC.”
In addition to the five postgraduate programmes offered initially, the University plans to increase the range of courses and also welcome PhD students. Queen’s President and vice chancellor professor Sir Ian Greer stated, “We are delighted that work is underway to bring Queen University’s world-class education to the wider student base in India. Our campus will offer opportunity and potential for a diverse range of students whilst also delivering social value and impact to the region. With a focus on innovation and collaboration, our GIFT City campus will create opportunities for knowledge exchange and advance the4 shared goal of sustainable development.”
A member of the Russell Group, Queen’s also figures among the UK’s top 24 leading research-intensive universities.
