The Kisan Rin Portal (KRP), which was launched in September 2023, is one of the interesting reasons why the Centre increased ground-level credit in the agriculture sector. It has succeeded in addressing some of the key challenges in the Modified Interest Subvention - Kisan Credit Card (MISS-KCC) scheme.

A feature of this is that it has overcome the problem of delayed payment by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and NABARD. Prior to this scheme, banks were supposed to submit claims for Interest Subvention (IS) and Prompt Repayment Incentive (PRI) manually to the RBI and NABARD, leading to significant delays and inefficiencies.

As on December 31, 2024, the portal had processed claims worth ₹10,8337 crore including IS and PRI. About 5.9 crore farmers, currently getting benefitted under the MISS-KCC scheme, have been mapped through KRP.

Simplyifying process

The portal has digitised this process, ensuring farmers and lending institutions benefit from quicker, seamless transactions, improving access to credit for agricultural needs.

“The portal has simplified the process, enabling access to low-cost credit not only for traditional cropping activities but also for dairy, poultry, fisheries, and beekeeping. Banks and cooperatives can now submit automated digital claims, streamlining the entire process,” it said.

The KRP’s covers over 450 banks across the country, with 1.89 lakh branches and 4.65 lakh users actively involved in processing claims.
